Face Lift (Rhytidectomy)

Face lift surgery is available in Phuket, Bangkok and other areas of Thailand.

As people age, the effects of gravity, exposure to the sun, and the stresses of daily life can be seen in their faces. Deep creases form between the nose and mouth; the jaw line grows slack and jowly; folds and fat deposits appear around the neck. Face lift surgery will help. Please feel free to ask your face lift surgeon any questions during your consultation.

A facelift (technically known as rhytidectomy) can't stop this aging process. What it can do is "set back the clock," improving the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and redraping the skin of your face and neck. A facelift can be done alone, or in conjunction with other procedures such as a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, or nose reshaping.

If you're considering a facelift, this brochure will give you a basic understanding of the procedure when it can help, how it's performed, and what results you can expect. It can't answer all of your questions, since a lot depends on the individual patient and the surgeon. Please ask your surgeon about anything you don't understand.

The Best Candidates for a Face Lift

The best candidate for a facelift is a man or woman whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well-defined. Most patients are in their forties to sixties, but facelifts can be done successfully on people in their seventies or eighties as well.

A facelift can make you look younger and fresher, and it may enhance your self- confidence in the process. But it can't give you a totally different look, nor can it restore the health and vitality of your youth. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with your surgeon

There are many variations of facelift surgery. You should ask your doctor about facelift variations, which may include the deep plane lift or composite lift, SMAS lift, subperiosteal lift, skin lift, mid facelift, and feather or thread lift.

What will happen at the initial Face Lift consultation?

During the initial consultation, you and your surgeon will discuss the changes you want to make in your appearance. He/she will explain the different options available to you, the procedure itself, and its risks and limitations. He/she will also explain the kind of anesthesia required, the surgical facility, and costs.

Your surgeon will begin with a complete medical history. He/she may also give you specific instructions preparing for surgery, including guidelines for eating and drinking, smoking, and taking or avoiding vitamins, supplements and medications. Routine laboratory tests may be required before surgery.

Face lift surgery can be combined with other surgeries.

The Cost: Available upon request for the following: Full Facelift including forehead lift, Full Facelift including neck lift and Lower Facelift including neck lift

Duration: Operation will take around one to three hours.

Hospital stay: Two nights hospitalization

Recovery

The face lift healing time and recovery period can last anywhere from one week to several weeks, depending on the type of face lift surgery undergone. Most patients can return to work from a standard face lift in 10 days to two weeks, and patients who choose a mid face lift can expect about the same amount of recovery time. Patients who undergo an endoscopic face lift can return to work in as little as a day or two, and thread face lift and mini face lift patients can expect about the same “weekend” recovery time.

Some things, such as blow-drying your hair and wearing earrings, may be prohibited for a longer period of time. For the first few days or weeks, depending on your procedure, only walking and mild stretching are appropriate physical activities. Vigorous exercise, heavy housework, and sexual activity should be avoided for at least the initial two weeks after surgery. Alcohol, saunas, and steam rooms should be avoided for several months. During the face lift recovery period, extra rest is very important to promote proper healing.

Benefits

When properly performed, face lift surgery turns back the clock, firming up muscle tone, smoothing the skin, and restoring an attractive facial contour. Face lift surgery is not designed to make a person look like someone else, but to make that person look and feel years younger.

Face lift surgery is best-known for tightening loose, sagging skin — sometimes too ambitiously (leading to a pulled or wind-tunnel appearance). Though tightening lax, aging skin and carefully trimming away the excess skin remains an important component of face lift surgery, surgeons have realized that this tightening works best (and looks more natural) when the face’s underlying structures are also restored to a youthful configuration.

Additional Information

Male Face Lift Surgery

Generally, men who are healthy but would like to enhance their appearance make good candidates for a male face lift. The procedure is specifically designed to minimize the effects of time commonly faced by men. These include sagging in the cheeks and around the neck and jawline, which contributes to a heavy, congested look most men find undesirable. However, it is important to have a realistic notion of what to expect from a face lift. Men wishing to control such problems should therefore speak to one of the male face lift specialists in their area before deciding on surgery.
